The creation of this book allowed for the exploration of both narrative and specimen. The narrative is a transcription from designer Marian Bantjes’ TED talk, Intricate Beauty by Design. Each classification has its own characteristics, and showcases various ranges of type from light, to bold, regular to italic. This book demonstrates an individual theme to create pattern and movement. Each classification displays a unique progression of type. Supplemental text is included from a 2009 interview Marian Bantjes did with Eye Magazine.

The typeface used for the narrative throughout this book is sans serif Univers Light designed by Adrian Frutiger in 1957. The rest of the book features typefaces from the following five specimen classifications: Old Style, Transitional, Modern, Slab Serif and Sans Serif.
